Alton Towers Resort have announced that the Top Spin attraction coming to Forbidden Valley in 2025, previously referred to as Project Ocean, will be named Toxicator.

Though Forbidden Valley has famously been home to a Top Spin previously, with Ripsaw occupying the same location in the park until 2015, Toxicator will not be a direct return of this attraction type. Instead, the ride is a Huss Suspended Top Spin, the first of its kind in the UK, and only the second in Europe, following in the footsteps of Talocan at Phantasialand in Germany. The Huss Suspended Top Spin sees riders seated back-to-back with legs suspended below the ride vehicle, whereas the previous Top Spin model saw guests facing one direction with a footrest as part of the gondola.

Toxicator will be the only Top Spin ride in the world to be elevated above ground level, giving guests the unique opportunity to view the entire ride experience from below. The attraction’s 16-foot elevated platform also makes it the highest ride of its kind, standing at 78 feet tall. With Top Spins being a popular spectator attraction, the opportunity for a new, unique way to enjoy this ride type is an exciting prospect.

Whilst it has previously been unclear how Toxicator would fit into the wider storyline of Forbidden Valley, it has now been revealed that the attraction marks the latest technology from The Phalanx, extracting and separating toxic saliva harvested from the Nemesis creature. An intense spinning, centrifugal force is applied to the saliva to transform it into a chemical solution so powerful it will melt anything it touches.

More than 500 riders per hour will be able to experience this intense centrifugal force, sitting back-to-back and enjoying the intense spin patterns of the ride, before being held face down above a ‘bubbling pool of highly toxic alien acid’. This bubbling pool of acid is set to be created with green-lit water fountains on both sides of the attraction. At this stage, it is unclear whether the water fountains will soak riders like they did on Ripsaw, but we suspect not as it’s detrimental to the maintenance and condition of the ride having it constantly wet.

Bianca Sammut, Vice President of Alton Towers Resort said:

Alton Towers is renowned for consistently delivering new and reimagined thrills for our fans and as the UK’s only topspin ride, we’re excited to welcome Toxicator to the park.

We can’t wait to challenge thrillseekers to submit to the spin. Located in the heart of Forbidden Valley, this is the latest chapter in the Nemesis story which has captivated generations of thrillseekers worldwide.

We’re not yet ready to reveal precisely when Toxicator will turn your world upside down, but rest assured the wait will be worth it.

A teaser for the attraction’s upcoming TV advert was also released by the Resort:

An opening date for Toxicator is yet to be announced, but in official photos released by the Resort on November 26th, the ride hardware appeared to be almost entirely installed. The Resort have nonetheless confirmed that the ride is set to open this Spring, with the expectation therefore that the start of the season on Saturday 15th March is being targeted.
