A fearsome creature, fury heightened and more uncontrollable than ever before – Alton Towers Resort have today revealed that its iconic rollercoaster will return as Nemesis Reborn this Spring, together with unveiling a new look for the creature itself!
To accompany the announcement of the new Nemesis Reborn name, the Resort have released a key visual and animation that provides a first look at the reimagined Nemesis creature, which serves as the rollercoaster’s station. The most striking feature is its single, giant blazing red eye ringed by razor-sharp teeth which sits at the centre of its head. Tentacles snake from its body, studded with the same teeth, along with huge, powerful claws extending from its muscular midsection. The creature is said to propel itself on nimble, black legs, whilst behind it trails a tail that it whips with bone-crunching force.
Along with the visual, the new logo for Nemesis Reborn has also been revealed. This takes clear inspiration from the coaster’s original logo, although the ‘I’ of Nemesis now references the distinctive eye of the creature and the ‘N’ is sporting some additional teeth. ‘Reborn’ takes on a similar veiny red appearance to that of the new track, and those with eagle eyes will note that the ‘B’ and ‘O’ can also be read as ’30’ in reference to it reaching its 30-year milestone in 2024, having first opened in 1994.
Bianca Sammut, Divisional Director at Alton Towers Resort, said:
“Nemesis is utterly cherished by generations of thrillseekers. As Europe’s first inverted rollercoaster it occupies a special place in the heart for so many.
“At Alton Towers Resort we’ve been working tirelessly to transform this iconic attraction and we’re delighted to give fans a first look at the terrifying creature that gives it its name.
“This year fans will be able to experience the stand-out thrills of Nemesis Reborn for themselves. We’re keeping tight-lipped about the exact date of its return for now, but we can assure you … the wait will be worth it.”
The new visual also appears like it could provide some hints towards other aspects of the overhauled attraction. In one of its claws, the creature can be seen to be tearing what appears to be a track support from the ground – it seems plausible that this could be a detail which will be realised when the ride reopens. Also shown are Nemesis Reborn’s black and red trains, including their previously unseen wheel covers which are shown to sport the same colour scheme.
This latest announcement comes after it was revealed over the final weekend of the 2023 season that the Nemesis creature had escaped from its secure containment and would be back with a vengeance for 2024. With the last sections of track installed shortly after closing weekend, work on-site has now shifted to installing the new queue line and progressing the menacing transformation of the Nemesis creature.
It certainly seems like more details are set to be revealed for Nemesis Reborn in the build-up to its opening in a few months. Whilst the Resort’s website suggests that the surrounding area will remain known as Forbidden Valley, the Resort have submitted plans to convert the former Ripsaw Café into a new shop, as well as demolishing the Edge Games arcade and replacing with a new purpose-built steel frame structure that is said will serve the same function.
