Alton Towers Resort have this week revealed a new look for Nemesis’ track, upon taking delivery and commencing installation of the first sections, ahead of the ride’s planned reopening in 2024 following the refurbishment works.
Although the appearance of Nemesis did somewhat evolve over the years with a number of repaints, the track always remained a lighter, off-white colour from when it opened in 1994 up until closing at the end of the 2022 season. In a striking change, it has now been revealed that the new track is black, with what appears to be red veins snaking along its length. Photos released by the Resort show a section of track for the final bend prior to the brake run being lifted into position on Wednesday night, overseen by the Phalanx. A further drone photo also provides an aerial view of the supports and a total of three sections of track installed in the final part of the layout.
The Phalanx were among the first to witness that the new track has changed colour, with footage mysteriously ‘leaked’ via the Resort’s official social media channels showing the transformation and the convoy beginning its journey to the Resort on Tuesday. Despite the leaked footage suggesting that everything may not be as it seems, with the posts including the hashtag #SeekTheTruth, the Phalanx have reported that all is well with the Nemesis beast… With vertical construction commencing, the Phalanx have opened an Observation Platform overlooking the Nemesis site, encouraging those intrigued by the investigation to come and see for themselves, with the platform accessible by up to 30 guests at a time.
Bianca Sammut, Divisional Director at Alton Towers Resort, said:
“As Europe’s first ever inverted rollercoaster, Nemesis rightly holds legendary status among thrillseekers.
“At Alton Towers Resort we’re committed to providing visitors with stand-out attractions that are unmatched by anyone else.
“Reaching this latest milestone in the transformation of Nemesis is a proud moment for everyone involved in the project.
“And for all thrillseekers out there it means the day we can take the wraps off our thrilliant revamp is edging ever closer.
“Stay alert for more developments…”
Following the closure of Nemesis at the end of the 2022 season as the Phalanx took control, the Resort immediately got to work, removing all of the original track and supports from the top of the lift through to the start of the brake run. Over the closed season, images emerged from Clermont Steel Fabricators in Ohio – the location where all Bolliger & Mabillard track and supports are manufactured – showing what looked to be pieces of Nemesis’ new track. This included track that was black in colour, fuelling the speculation that its appearance would be changing, which was first triggered by the identification that the numbers featured on the posters and wristbands from closing day could correspond to the RAL codes for ‘Jet Black’, ‘Graphite Black’, and ‘Ruby Red’. Upon the theme park reopening for the 2023 season in March, it was possible to see that creation of the new foundations, to which the supports attach, was well underway.
