Alton Towers Resort have today released further information about the new for 2023 attraction, The Curse at Alton Manor, including some first look photos at what awaits inside!
As well as the claim that visitors will appear to vanish in front of their own eyes, the Resort have revealed that this new spine-tingling attraction will feature flying demons, levitating dolls, and haunted chandeliers when it opens this coming weekend, on Saturday 18th March. The ride will tell the horrifying story of Emily Alton, the somewhat troubled daughter of a pair of Victorian high society figures who prefer the taste of champagne to being a parent. One night, everybody disappeared except Emily, who is rumoured to still be haunting the manor to this day, searching for someone to play with. Alton Towers have stated that audio technology will make riders feel that Emily is talking directly to them, and advanced 3D projection-mapping can be expected to bring to life each scenario riders will experience on their journey through Alton Manor.
The attraction will take brave riders through a dozen extraordinary scenes exploring each step of Emily’s awful revenge. One of these will be The Grand Hall, where an opulent party of indulgence becomes the scene of death and destruction, with skeletal bodies slumped at tables. Another is the Demon Doll Workshop, which showcases the depths of Emily Alton’s depravity, where an operating table and human sized dolls have been meticulously brutalised. A third is the Attic, where Emily languished with just a doll’s house to keep her company, lonely and forgotten, turning her into the vengeful creature you will be visiting on your experience.
In the photos released by the Resort, it can be seen that there are plenty of Easter eggs and nods to Alton Towers’ past hidden throughout the ride layout. References to former rides such as the Alton Mouse and Corkscrew are just two which can be spotted, and with it said that fairytale Easter eggs have also been included, visitors are encouraged to try to find every single one.
Bianca Sammut, Divisional Director at Alton Towers Resort, says of the new attraction:
“We’re delighted to finally be able to take the wraps off The Curse at Alton Manor and welcome those brave enough to enter.
“We’ve harnessed the power of cutting edge technology to provide a fully immersive experience that blurs the line between reality and Emily’s demonic world.
“Visitors will even seem to disappear in front of their very eyes as a result of a spine-chilling array of special effects and visuals that have never been seen before from a UK theme park.
“Child’s play, this isn’t. Emily is waiting … The question is, dare you experience what she has in store?”
The new ride will be housed in the building formerly home to Duel: The Haunted House Strikes Back, itself a retheme of the original Haunted House, and will utilise aspects of the original ride system and theming. You can revisit our previous updates for this project on our dedicated page, beginning in August 2022 when a message appeared at the exit, declaring that “The Duel is Over; This is my house”. In fact, it looks as though that same frame can be spotted within the new ride, in one of the newly released images…
