As first announced back in November 2022, Bianca Sammut has been appointed Divisional Director at Alton Towers Resort ahead of the 2023 season.

Joining the Resort’s senior leadership team from today, Wednesday 8th February, Bianca will oversee both the theme park and on-resort-accommodation operations. The role of Divisional Director is one which is noted as having not been in place since 2020. Bianca is said to bring a wealth of experience after starting as a Ride Operator at Australia’s Wonderland in Sydney and then spending two decades in a variety of leisure attraction roles, progressing into senior positions in Australia with Village Roadshow Theme Parks and in the United Arab Emirates at Yas Waterworld & Ferrari World Abu Dhabi. In 2020 Bianca held the position of Head of Yas Island Theme Parks.

Ahead of her arrival, Bianca Sammut said:

“I am beyond excited to be a part of the Merlin Family and the very committed and talented team at Alton Towers Resort. Alton Towers is an iconic attraction that will continue to innovate and deliver memorable experiences for many years to come. We will stay committed to our people and will be passionate about delivering memories that will last a lifetime.”

Ian Crabbe, Managing Director of Resort Theme Parks UK for Merlin Entertainments, said:

“We’re thrilled and honoured to have someone with Bianca’s personality and philosophy of hard working, joyful and inspirational values; values which closely match those of Merlin’s and our resort. We know Bianca is going to do amazing things in the role of Divisional Director and we can’t wait to see her in action. She will be both transformative and inspiring to everyone working in the business. Her wealth of industry experience will play a pivotal part in driving forward the resort’s further success, with exciting and innovative development plans over the next few years.

“Following a strong 2022 season, which has seen the arrival of new family attractions, a jam-packed season of events and some iconic moments that we know our teams and fans won’t forget, it is a truly exciting time to be joining the Resort. We very much look forward to welcoming Bianca to the Alton Towers Resort, and the wider Merlin Entertainments family.”

In another recent change to the Resort’s senior leadership team, having spent seven years at Alton Towers, initially as Director of Operations and then more recently as General Manager, Francis Jackson announced his departure from the Resort as he returns home to Australia. After starring in explainer videos published to the Resort’s social media channels, Francis built up a following of fans, so there are many who are sad to see him leaving the Resort.

Nonetheless, with the recent announcement of The Curse at Alton Manor as the new attraction for 2023, the planned relaunch of Nemesis in 2024 following its track replacement, and Project Horizon also in the pipeline, there is lots to be excited about at Alton Towers! We look forward to seeing Bianca out on the park in 2023 and beyond.
