Alton Towers Resort have this week released further details for some of the remaining events in their 2022 line-up – Mardi Gras, Scarefest and Christmas. We round-up all the latest information!
After the conclusion of Festival of Thrills on 6th May, the next upcoming event is Mardi Gras, which is due to run on 21st May – 19th June. Returning for a second year, the event will once again see the Resort transformed with music, street performers, colour, and food, to create a fantabulous feel-good atmosphere. Each themed area of the park will be represented by its own ‘Krewe’, with the brand-new Towers Street Krewe for 2022. As well as appearing in their respective areas, atop showstopping static parade floats, at the start and end of each day all the Krewes will come together on Towers Street, offering guests a chance to pick their favourite!
Each morning of the event, a carnival King and Queen will be chosen from amongst the guests and crowned during a lavish masquerade ceremony on Towers Street. Once anointed, the King and Queen will be treated like VIPs for the entire day with an exclusive VIP package including platinum fastracks, food and retail vouchers, entry to The Alton Towers Dungeon, the best seats in the house for the live shows, plus so much more. Guests are encouraged to don lots of sparkles, beads, and colour for the chance to be noticed and chosen!
Food Street will also return bigger and better than before, and guests can choose from delicious ‘Dirty Dogs’ hotdogs, smokery burgers, pulled pork and ribs for a real South American BBQ flavour, or try a Louisiana staple fish-filled fancy Po’Boy sandwich. Traditional Mardi Gras inspired King Cakes, fried and glazed to tickle the tastebuds, will also be available. New for 2022 will be a wonderfully themed Lakeside bar experience with floating pontoon seating on the lake.
Chris Carter, Events and Entertainments Director at Alton Towers Resort, said:
“Mardi Gras is celebrated around the world and it invites people from all communities to come together to enjoy music, entertainment, delicious food, parades and parties. We are really excited to see the return of our Mardi Gras inspired takeover at Alton Towers Resort – the core of Mardi Gras worldwide is about bringing people together and celebrating your local community, which is something we are really keen to tap into. We’ve got an incredible line-up of live entertainment, each themed area of the park will be represented by its own Krewe, and every day we will be crowning carnival Kings and Queens in a lavish masquerade ceremony, which we’re sure our guests will love.”
Later this year, on 7th – 9th and 14th – 31st October, the Resort will celebrate 15 years of Scarefest, which will see more live entertainment across the Resort for all ages and a brand-new scare maze for the bravest of souls. Friday the 13th saw the release of scare maze tickets, with three returning attractions (which ones is yet to be confirmed), alongside the new scare experience. Although full details are yet to be revealed, the new addition has been teased with a short video and photo from within the Towers themselves, featuring an open coffin amongst a pile of clutter. A combi ticket for the four attractions is priced at £32, discounted to £25.60 for Merlin and Alton Towers passholders.
Full details of what’s happening at the Resort this Christmas have also been confirmed. Adopting a similar format to 2021’s festive offerings, both the Towers Street Christmas Market and Lightopia Seasonal Wonderland will return. A selection of the theme park’s attractions will also be open to guests, with the line-up including: Spinball Whizzer, Marauders Mayhem, Heave Ho, Sharkbait Reef, Hex, Cuckoo Cars Driving School, Gangsta Granny: The Ride, The Royal Carousel, Flavio’s Fabulous Fandango, Go Jetters Vroomster Zoom Ride, Octonauts Rollercoaster Adventure, Peter Rabbit Hippity Hop, Postman Pat Parcel Post, Big Fun Show Time, Something Special Sensory Garden, Justin’s House Pie-O-Matic Factory, Bugbie Go Round, In the Night Garden Magical Boat Ride, and Get Set Go Treetop Adventure.
The Resort have simplified the ticket options available this year, with guests able to purchase either a ticket to access both the Christmas Market and Lightopia for £15/£20, or a ticket to access the attractions alongside the Christmas Market and Lightopia for £30/£35, with prices varying depending on the date. Unlike in 2021, it has been confirmed that passholders will gain free entry to the rides and market (after pre-booking their visit) this year, and Lightopia can be booked for £15 per person. The festivities will run on selected dates during 25th November – 2nd January.
Other events this season will be Oktoberfest on 10th September – 2nd October and Fireworks on 4th – 6th November.
