Alton Towers Resort has today confirmed full details of ‘The Retro Squad’, a collection of three retro-inspired pop-up rides which are due to feature as part of the ride line-up in 2021.
It is said that 41 years ago a message asking for help to bring more funktastic thrills for the nation to enjoy was sent out into the galaxy and the cry for help was answered by The Retro Squad, who set course for Alton Towers but never arrived and the memory of them got lost in time. Now arriving in 2021, they will constitute:
- Roller Disco (Waltzers located in Dark Forest) – get ready to slide and swirl round and round, faster and faster in a head-spinning, totally rad experience
- Mixtape (Smashing Jump located in X-Sector) – you’ll be in for some major retrotastic laughs as you bounce up and down, then down and up
- Funk’n’Fly (Super Trooper in Forbidden Valley) – reach new retrotastic heights and enjoy a thrillingly funktastic flight
All attractions are included with admission to the theme park and have a minimum height restriction of 1.2m. Speaking of the announcement, Francis Jackson, General Manager at Alton Towers Resort, said:
“We are committed to creating fun and thrills for families and thrill-seekers and the new retro experiences are different to anything we offer on the theme park. We have introduced a series of new outdoor attractions which are included in the price of a theme park ticket offering guests a nostalgic spin-back to the 80s, which provides an exciting addition which we’re sure our guests will love.
“We are delighted to announce that the new outdoor attractions will be available from when we open on April 12th. Safety is our number one priority and as well as number of robust health and hygiene measures, we will continue to operate on a reduced capacity when we open, therefore we have strategically placed the new rides around the theme park to help us ensure guests are dispersed and social distancing can be maintained.”
