Alton Towers Resort was victorious at last night’s ScareCON SCAR Awards, picking up two awards out of the five it was nominated for.
Beating competition from the likes of Thorpe Park Resort, Scare Kingdom Scream Park, and Tulley’s Shocktoberfest, Alton Towers walked away with the award for ‘Best Halloween Scare Attraction’ for Altonville Mine Tours: Uncover the Legend of the Skin Snatchers (the second year running the Resort have won the award), and the ‘Award for Technical Excellence’ for the Haunted Lanterns in Altonville Mine Tours.
The Resort had received five nominations:
- Best Halloween Scare Attraction – Altonville Mine Tours: Uncover The Legend of the Skinsnatchers
- Best Original Concept and Design – Altonville Mine Tours: Uncover The Legend of the Skinsnatchers
- Best Set and Costume – Altonville Mine Tours: Uncover The Legend of the Skinsnatchers
- Award for Technical Excellence – Haunted Laterns in Altonville Mine Tours: Uncover The Legend of the Skinsnatchers
- Best Street Team and Live Entertainment
These most recent awards follow on from multiple previous successes which last year saw the Resort win ‘Best Halloween Scare Attraction’ for Sub Species: The End Games’, and ‘Best Use of Animatronics/SFX’ for the finale of The Haunting of Molly Crow. Previous years have also seen the Resort win awards for their overnight experiences in 2014 and 2015, and The Sanctuary win ‘Best Seasonal/Halloween Attraction in 2013. These latest wins are a reflection of the continued high production values evident across all the Scarefest offerings in 2016.
Unfortunately there was disappointment for Thorpe Park Resort once again as they walked away empty handed for the third year in a row, despite being nominated in two categories.
Now in its tenth year, the SCAR awards are held annually by ScareCON in association with ScareTOUR (a site dedicated to providing independent reviews of scare attractions all over the world), VenueMagic Show control and Fear FX. Held at a well-known attraction each year, the 2017 ScareCON event was held at Alton Towers Resort on 23rd June, and brought together professionals from across the scare industry, including designers, owners, fans and experts.
TowersTimes would like to congratulate all the winners from last night’s awards. What are your thoughts on this year’s winners? What do you think 2017 will have in store to scare us this Halloween? TowersTimes will be sure to bring you all the latest developments.
