Alton Towers Resort was victorious at last night’s ScareCON SCAR awards, picking up two awards for Best Halloween Scare Attraction for Sub Species: The End Games, and Best Use of Animatronics/SFX as a Set Piece for the finale of The Haunting of Molly Crowe, beating competition from Thorpe Park, Screamland and a number of other high quality scare attractions.
The Resort had received seven nominations in six categories:
• Best Halloween Scare Attraction – Sub Species: The End Games
• Best Original Concept and Design – Sub Species: The End Games
• Best Use of Multimedia – The Haunting of Molly Crowe web advertising
• Best Horror Themed Room Escape Adventure – Sub Species: Operation Lockdown
• Best Street Team Performers – Alton Ancestors
• Best Use of Animatronics/SFX as a Set Piece – The Alien – Sub Species: Then End Games & The Finale – The Haunting of Molly Crowe
These most recent awards for the Resort follow on from previous success which have seen The Sanctuary win Best Seasonal/Halloween Attraction in 2013, the Alton Towers Hotel Scare Rooms win Best Overnight Scare Experience in 2014, and The Ultimate Sleepover retain the Best Overnight Scare Experience award for the resort in 2015. These latest wins and nominations are a reflection of the overwhelmingly positive feedback Alton Towers Resort received for their revamped Scarefest in 2015, and are much deserved for the quality and high production values which were clearly evident across the scare mazes.
However, there was disappointment for Thorpe Park Resort as they left empty handed for the second year in a row, despite receiving three nominations.
Now in its ninth year, the SCAR awards are held annually by ScareCON in association with ScareTOUR (a site dedicated to providing independent reviews of scare attractions all over the world) and VenueMagic Show control. Held at a well-known attraction each year, the 2016 ScareCON event was held at Dreamland Margate on Friday 13th May, and brought together professionals from across the scare industry, including designers, owners, fans and experts.
TowersTimes would like to congratulate all the winners from last night’s awards. What are your thoughts on this year’s winners? What do you think 2016 will have in store to scare us this Halloween? TowersTimes will be sure to bring you all the latest developments.
