Alton Towers Resort has received three nominations for the ScareCON Scar awards, the annual awards which recognise and champion all aspects of the scare industry – from Halloween events, to year round scare attractions.
In the nominations for the 8th annual awards, the resort picked up nominations in the following categories:
• Best Overnight Scare Experience – The Ultimate Sleepover
• Best Street Team and Entertainment
• Best Halloween Scream Park – Scarefest
These nominations follow on from previous years’ successes which has seen The Sanctuary winning Best Seasonal/Halloween Attraction in 2013, and the Alton Towers Hotel Scare Rooms win Best Overnight Scare Experience in 2014. However, 2015 sees the resort pick up the fewest total nominations of previous years.
A number of other Merlin Entertainments attractions also feature in the nominations, with Thorpe Park Resort picking up three nominations, York, London, and Edinburgh Dungeons all picking up nominations for Best Year Round Scare Attractions, and Best Educationally Scary Attraction, and Warwick Castle picking up nominations for Best Halloween Scare Attraction/Maze for Blackout, and Best Educationally Scary Attraction for the Castle Dungeon.
Now in its eighth year, the SCAR awards are held annually by ScareCON in association with ScareTOUR (a site dedicated to providing independent reviews of scare attractions all over the world) and SIGA Fear FX. Held at a well-known attraction each year, the 2015 ScareCON event is due to be held at Thorpe Park Resort on 19th June, and will bring together professionals from across the scare industry, including designers, owners, fans and experts.
