As the Halloween period approaches, Alton Towers have announced further details regarding the annual Scarefest event.

Scare Mazes

As TowersTimes reported previously, all three mazes from last year are returning

[Carnival of Screams, The Sanctuary & Terror of The Towers] alongside the Zombies! Scarezone. This year however, entry to the Carnival of Screams is provided with park admission, whereas Terror of the Towers now requires a ticket to gain entry into the attraction.

The Carnival of Screams

Carnival of Screams returns for a fourth year after replacing Field of 1000 Screams in 2010. This year, the maze appears to revolve around the story of a performer known as ‘Jack Nife’, a knife throwing artist who accidentally killed his friend during an act. Now Jack wants revenge on every member of the audience, including YOU!

The Sanctuary

After the unprecedented success of The Smiler, Dr Kelman is throwing the doors open to The Sanctuary for the second year in a row to continue marmalising guests! Regarding the reopening of The Sanctuary for Scarefest 2013, Dr Kelman has this to say:

”I’m so glad to see you’re all enjoying the emphatic success of The Smiler! However, let’s not forget where it all started! The Sanctuary began this process and whilst there were failures, I truly believe we can still surpass modernistic approach of The Smiler! The Sanctuary will open its doors and will correct you in the most effectual way possible. book your appointment now to avoid bitter disappointment.Thank you.”

Terror of the Towers: What Lies Within

Despite the happenings of last year, two urban explorers have still decided to break into the Towers ruins. But now there are reports of them disappearing and it’s your turn to trace their footsteps and discover what lies within!

Zombies! Scarezone

The undead have returned to roam the Earth for the third Scarefest in a row, and the only safe place to hide is in a restricted military zone set up in the Alton Towers theme park. Will you survive the apocalypse?

All of the scare attractions will be returning to the same location they were situated in last year. However, the location of Carnival of Screams is yet to be confirmed. This means that Terror of the Towers and The Sanctuary will be situated inside the ruins of the Towers, and Zombies! Scarezone will be located behind the game stalls in the Dark Forest.

Extreme Scare Mazes

During the day, park guests simply encounter actors who are positioned in such ways to make you jump out of your skin. There are various signs before the maze and during the briefing at the start that remind you the actors will not touch you. However, the ‘extreme ticket’ will toss this statement into a boiling witch’s cauldron and a much more extreme experience will be offered.

2012 saw a similar addition added to The Sanctuary, where guests would pay a tad extra to be slightly more marmalised than they were expecting. The actors would fully interact with guests in a whole new hands on experience, offering a totally different level of scares! This variation of The Sanctuary was strictly for guests of eighteen years and above, and this rule applies again for the extreme mazes on hand this year. Tickets will be limited for these run throughs and are expected to sell out quickly!

Scarefest for the Families

Alongside the terrifying scare mazes, the Resort offer a broad range of entertainment to every family. This year, Franklyn’s Freaky Fun Zone is reborn within Fountain Square, in contrast to being located in the farm on previous years, further adding fuel to speculation that the Farmyard will be redeveloped for the 2014 season.

Altonville Motel Scare Rooms

The Scare Rooms have been a regular tradition up at the hotels, and this year is no exception. The Altonville Motel returns with yet another story that will unfold to guests who brave a night in one of the scare rooms. This year, the motel is reopening under new ownership, thanks to Caleb Winkles and Mary Miller, who just so happen to be celebrating their wedding at the same time! “Until Death do us part” suddenly seems to become a worryingly realistic truth.
