At midnight on the 29th of August the results for the all time greatest ride competition were posted on the Alton Towers website. After almost two months of voting Nemesis was crowned king of the coasters. There will now be a ceremony at the resort tomorrow to crown Nemesis.

Nemesis has been leading the way since the campaign started and its victory has never been in doubt. Widely regarded as one of the top 10 rollercoasters in the world, Nemesis opened in 1994 and was the oldest rollercoaster in the competition. Nemesis had a huge 41% of the vote, the same number of votes as 2nd and 3rd places combined!

Oblivion took the runners-up spot, with a voting percentage of 21%. Air narrowly missed out on second place with 20% of the vote.

Fourth spot was given to Thirteen (10% of the total votes), the world’s first freefall rollercoaster, which opened in 2010. Rita was the last placed rollercoaster in the competition and came in 5th place with only 8% of the vote.

Although the competition is now over you still have until the 31st of August to enter the competition to design the new ride, set to open in 2013.
