The Skyride system at Alton Towers, which has been a feature of the park since 1987, has been unavailble for the past fortnight. The reason why it has been closed has not been released into the public domain although rumours on our popular discussion forum have suggested that the cable may need replacing.
The subject of several fires and problems over the years, the Skyride is seen as a vital tool in time saving at the resort, given the parks size and relative distance from one area to the next. Disabled guests will also no doubt feel the strain without the Poma manufactured system. Guests are able to use the Cross Valley pathway for the more strenuous walk from Forbidden Valley to Dark Forest/Cloud Cuckoo Land, although this is steep.
TowersTimes currently has no idea when the Skyride will reopen, but given the parks popularity in June and July, it is hoped it will open sooner rather than later. Alton Towers have not yet updated their live ticker bar on the main website, but hopefully will do so in due course.
