Happy Birthday Th13teen
It’s a year to the day that Th13teen – the world’s first free fall drop roller coaster – was released to the world and, one year on, it’s with a much calmer expectation that we head into the 2011 season.
With no major new attractions opening this year, we focus instead on the rebranding of several food outlets together with some smaller changes/developments across the theme park.
Popular snack bar, Refresh, located opposite the entrance to Sonic Spinball, is being developed into a Noodle Bar with the title ‘Spinball Noodles’ and will offer a range of lighter food choices with an Oriental flair. The park have also added a new drinks outlet, named the ‘Coffee Baaaarr’, which will serve freshly brewed coffees together with other drinks, cakes and snacks and will be located in Old MacDonalds Farm. A new sweet shop is also due to open near Battle Galleons in Mutiny Bay under the name ‘Ye Olde Sweet Shoppe’.
As previously announced here on TowersTimes, direct from the West End in London, the Cloud Cuckoo Land theatre will host the Go!Go!Go! Show in 2011 – a fast paced, high energy show featuring music, magic and dance aimed at the parks younger visitors but suitable for mums and dads too! The Courtyard stage in Mutiny Bay will this year host ‘The Quest for the Golden Parrot’ and is expected to combine music, action and suspense for the whole family. Both shows are expected to run several times daily.
First revealed during February, another small development for 2011 is ‘Skeleton Bay’ located in the depths of Sharkbait Reef by SEA LIFE, the aquarium found in the heart of Mutiny Bay. Home to Japanese Spider Crabs, the attractions combines atmospheric lighting, smells and music along with these strange creatures of the deep!
Along with these changes, it is expected that Alton Towers will continue to announce special events, as the season progresses. Don’t forget that the park have already confirmed Alton Towers Live, Scarefest and Fireworks in 2011.
Here at TowersTimes, we look forward to the start of the season this Saturday, March 26th, when the theme park throws opens its doors once again – for its 32nd season!
