After 4 years of waiting, it’s almost time for the long awaited return of Alton Towers legandary fireworks displays. After a bitter legal dispute with some local residents which left the resort facing the stark choice between either a 3-day fireworks event OR a 2-week halloween event, fireworks were shelved in favour of Scarefest which has steadily grown in popularity since it begain in 2007. And, with hundreds of thousands of guests choosing October as their month to visit the resort, Halloween really has become big business.
However, with the theme park celebrating its 30th birthday this year, they saw fit to return the fireworks displays in addition to Scarefest! This weekend (5,6,7 November) will see the first displays at the resort since the Electric Towers event in 2006. Billed as the “Ultimate Fireworks” display and the biggest ever seen at the park, it will take place every evening with a pre-show from 6.40pm and the fireworks themselves from 7.00pm. The display itself is expected to last 20-25 minutes but the theme park rides and attractions will remain open until 9:00pm every evening for those final rides of the year (and in the dark, too!) before the winter shut down begins.
Many of the electrical equipment has already been erected at the park in readiness for the weekends festivities and tens of thousands of guests are expected to attend as the theme park looks set for the most electrifying atmosphere in years.
