Alton Towers suffered a large power cut that affected rides and operations in certain areas of the park late on Saturday morning for around 90 minutes.
Some of the park’s top rides including Nemesis, Air, Ripsaw, Duel, Congo River Rapids and Runaway Mine Train were reported to be affected by the power outage.
Guests were evacuated and led to safety on most rides, however it was also reported that some guests were stranded throughout the ordeal on both the Monorail and Skyride, whose operations were also impacted at the same time.
The park extended its ride close until 7pm, the latest so far this season, as “compensation” for the incident. The Congo River Rapids also remained closed on Sunday. It is unknown whether this is related to the power cut or indeed whether it has yet re-opened.
