“In 1994, a government organisation known as The Phalanx, tasked with protecting the world from unknown threats, took on their most high profile case ever – to control the Nemesis creature and contain those that served it to the underground. Now, this post-apocalyptic, sewer dwelling community has been infested by a species from another world. The Phalanx have been called upon again to destroy the threat and they need you to join their ranks; become a Phalanx Operative and help battle the latest threat to life as we know it.”

The mission included:

  • A two hour extreme horror escape room experience
  • Escape game with theatrical immersive story which had multiple story routes leading to 8 different endings
  • Escape rooms exclusive to the Sub Species: Operation Lockdown mission

In their roles as Phalanx Operatives, guests would be split into small groups and tasked with completing a series of challenges. This included facing one of three escape rooms, with each group facing a different room. Guests’ ultimate objective was to successfully complete the tasks whilst minimising their level of contamination, with points gained for being the least contaminated Operative.

2015 saw a significant overhaul by the Resort of its Scarefest offering, which included the debut of two new scare mazes. One of these was Sub Species: The End Games, which in itself established a reputation for being the most intense maze in the event’s history.

However, also offered was an even more extreme after-hours experience in Sub Species: Operation Lockdown. Although contained within the set of Sub Species: The End Games, there were a number of rooms exclusive to the escape room experience.

Operation Lockdown effectively replaced the overnight experience that the Resort had offered for a number of years previous, in the form of Scare Rooms and then The Ultimate Sleepover in 2014.

Although Sub Species: The End Games returned for 2016 and a number of subsequent Scarefests, Operation Lockdown did not make a comeback, meaning 2015 was the only opportunity to experience it.
