For three years, Scarefest provided the opportunity to see the Alton Towers gardens in a whole new light as part of Garden Lights Walk: Whispering Souls.
Fact File
- Location: The Gardens
- Opening Year: 2020
- Closing Year: 2022
Providing something different to anything seen at Scarefest previously, Garden Lights Walk: Whispering Souls saw the majority of the historic gardens illuminated by an array of colourful lights, offering an enchanting experience for the whole family to enjoy together. An ambient soundtrack also added an extra spooky touch.
Once darkness fell, guests could explore the gardens at their leisure. Notable highlights included the Yew Arches, Conservatory, Choragic Monument and Bandstand. The bridge that running alongside the gardens also offered an incredibly stunning vista of the illuminated features.
2020 was a tumultuous season for Alton Towers, arising from the operational impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Alongside adding an outdoor scare maze to the Scarefest 2020 line-up, the Resort therefore also expanded the line-up by making the gardens themselves an attraction.
Garden Lights Walk: Whispering Souls subsequently returned for both Scarefest 2021 and 2022, before its departure from the line-up in 2023.
Scarefest 2020
Scarefest 2020 saw the debut of a new outdoor scare maze, as well as a new family-friendly walkthrough attraction in the gardens.

Following its debut the prior year, Garden Lights Walk: Whispering Souls returned for Scarefest 2021.
Scarefest 2022
The illuminated gardens walkthrough returned for what would be its final Scarefest in 2022.
