Work to construct Toxicator got underway in the first half of the 2024 season. With the elevated platform completed by the end of the season, the ride hardware itself was installed just a few weeks into the 2024/25 closed season.

17th March 2024

With the planning application still under consideration at the start of the 2024 season, the only development of note at the prospective site was the erection of black construction hoarding around the southern area, next to the newly opened Supply Store BUNKER 94. The fenced off area corresponded to that which would primarily be used for the Toxicator’s queue line, along with one side of the platform’s foundation.

18th May 2024

The site had been completely cleared and utility work, such as drainage, commenced underneath where the concrete tunnel and platform would be situated. A temporary fence was built around BUNKER 94 to facilitate staff access to the rear of the building and what appeared to be site offices.

21st May 2024

Rebar was laid across the future foundation of the attraction in advance of the concrete pour to assist with creating a strong base. Clearing of the upper area of the site continued in preparation for where the stepped queue line would be installed.

8th June 2024

Vertical construction of the rebar commenced in respect of the tunnel and platform structure that Toxicator would sit on. Foundations for the stepped queue line started to take shape. A crane was delivered to the site to assist with the lifting of items during construction.

16th June 2024

Toxicator’s tunnel and platform structure continued to take shape, with the vertical rebar completed on one side which was then enclosed by a wooden cast in preparation for the concrete to be poured. Further wooden casts had been placed around the foundations for the queue line at the upper end of the site.

12th July 2024

With the concrete completed on one side of the tunnel, the wooden cast was moved to the other side to repeat the process.

19th August 2024

The sides of the tunnel and platform were now nearing completion, with the structure soon ready to receive the horizontal concrete platform that Toxicator would sit on. The queue line at the upper end of the site was also having the remaining concrete poured to form its stepped base.

13th October 2024

The concrete platform on which Toxicator would sit appeared to be complete, with the majority of wooden casts and scaffolding removed, other than at the back of the structure where block work was taking place. The queue line continued to take shape, with the sides visibly sloping down towards the ride platform, and wooden casts in position to pour the concrete for steps. During the opening weekend of Scarefest, and alongside the first teaser for the new for 2025 attraction, signage and green flashing lights were added to the construction walls along with the construction site illuminated in a toxic green colour, providing a hint towards Toxicator’s as-yet-unannounced theme.

10th November 2024

As the end of the season approached, Toxicator’s concrete base continued to develop with additional features including stairs and a lift installed. Steel anchor bases had been added to either side of the platform where the ride supports will connect to. Landscaping work was underway, all in readiness for the installation of the ride hardware over the closed season. Further theming was added opposite the construction site for the Fireworks weekend which coincided with the another teaser video for the new attraction, inviting guests to return to ride in 2025.

20th November 2024

The first major elements of Toxicator’s ride system were delivered to Alton Towers, being the two main supports, arms and counter weights for a HUSS Rides Suspended Top Spin. Following a snowfall, the components were in the process of being moved to Forbidden Valley for installation.

22nd November 2024

Both of the arms for Toxicator, a HUSS Rides Suspended Top Spin, could now be seen from outside of the theme park in-situ on the concrete platform within Forbidden Valley. This left the gondola, counterweights and centre bar as the main components yet to be installed.

Following the arrival and installation of Toxicator’s ride hardware, Alton Towers Resort released two official images from within the park. The first was taken after the installation of the two main arms, and the second following the addition of the gondola and centre bar. This left only the counterweights as the main components still to be installed.

29th November 2024

By the end of November, it looked as though all of the main structural elements of Toxicator’s ride hardware had been installed, with the counterweights now visible in place on the ends of both arms. On the far side of the ride, an enclosed scaffold structure had been erected to enable work to begin on one of the two theming elements, which would ultimately be revealed as a giant silo when the ride opened.

21st February 2025

In February 2025, Alton Towers confirmed that Toxicator was set to open at the start of the 2025 season on Saturday 15th March. As part of the announcement, the Resort shared first-look drone footage of the Huss Suspended Top Spin in action as it continued to undergo testing.

23rd February 2025

With the theme park open for February Half Term, it was possible to catch a look at the latest progress on Toxicator’s construction. This included views of the green gondola and some of the theming applied to the platform. Following the announcement of the ride’s opening date, the screens within the park were updated to display this.
