Plans have been unveiled today for a new extension to CBeebies Land at Alton Towers Resort which will see a brand new ride added to the popular children’s area for the 2017 season.

In documents recently submitted to Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, the Resort outlines plans for a new ‘rotating ride and associated themed building’ which will be located in the area towards the back of CBeebies Land, in-between the Big Fun Show Time Arena and Tree Fu Tom Training Camp. The description and design of the ride suggests it will operate in a similar way to Flying Jumbos at Alton Towers Resort’s sister park, Chessington World of Adventures Resort, with the ride rotating whilst the themed carriages rise and fall during the attraction’s 2 minute operational cycle.

Also detailed in the plans are proposals to install what is described as a ‘family entertainment building’. This building will have its own dedicated queuing area and offer ‘informal entertainment’, however exactly what form this entertainment will take has not been indicated. The outside of the building will feature a colonnaded structure which will support theming elements on the roof of the building. Whilst the exact details of the theming is not detailed, plans show the building will be clad in dark coloured metal sheeting, whilst the theming elements will be constructed from timber, render and tiles.

To accompany the new ride and entertainment building, a new plaza area, buggy park, queue lines and other landscaped areas will also be constructed. Included within these will be a number of theming elements, including four separate ride signs situated along the edge of the rotating ride.

At the moment there is no indication as to which CBeebies characters the new ride will be based upon, however, there is some speculation that this latest addition could see Go Jetters join the CBeebies Land line-up with the design of the ride carriages seeming to match the Vroomster vehicles used by the characters in the show. This latest expansion to CBeebies Land will be the second addition to the popular family area since it first opened in May 2014. The area received its first expansion at the start of the 2015 season with the addition of Octonauts Rollercoaster Adventure. If approved it is anticipated that construction on the new addition will begin as soon as October 2016 with an anticipated opening date of March 2017.
