The theme park season ended with a bang, as Alton Towers Resort held its fantastical 3-day Fireworks event. Guests could enjoy rides in the dark, before being enchanted by a wondrous fireworks display, with Fireworks 2024 seeing guests invited to the Phalanx Expo!
Key Information
Dates: 8th – 10th November 2024
Opening Times: 10am – 9pm
Display Time: 7pm, lasting for around 25 minutes
Fireworks 2024 was based on the story of Nemesis Reborn, to celebrate the iconic ride returning with a vengeance. Guests were invited to the Phalanx Expo, a showcase headed up by the shadowy organisation charged with keeping the Nemesis beast under control.
To immerse guests into the story, Phalanx operatives could be found patrolling Towers Street and the structures erected on the Front Lawns throughout the day. A countdown to the Expo’s opening ceremony was displayed on screens, building anticipation for when John Dalton, CEO of the Phalanx, would take to the stage.
Although the Expo was unexpectedly interrupted by an extra-terrestrial threat, Nemesis was fortunately able to save the day and keep guests safe (although there may have been a few casualties amongst the Phalanx’s ranks). We are Phalanx!
A standard theme park admission ticket for one of the Fireworks dates allowed guests to watch the display, as well as enjoying all of the park’s rides and attractions! Merlin Discovery passholders were required to purchase a standard admission ticket, while Merlin Platinum passholders could pre-book for free. All other passholders were required to pre-book for £25pp, unless they had booked a short break at Alton Towers via the Merlin Holiday Club.

Rides closing before and during the fireworks show
Some areas of the park were within the fireworks firing zone, and so had to be clear of guests by 6pm, meaning that queue lines closed from 4pm. The rides reopened from around 8pm until park close. These areas and rides were as follows:
- Dark Forest – Rita, TH13TEEN
- X Sector – The Smiler, Oblivion
All other attractions not mentioned in any of these lists, including Wicker Man, were open throughout the fireworks show.
