As the Towers get busy preparing for the new season and their February half term ‘Towers Treats and Trails’ event, TowersTimes thought we would have a look at what we can look forward to in 2007 from the UK’s number one theme park…
New Attractions
As well as the Adventure Golf Course being built by the hotels, it now seems as if we can expect two new attractions to be opening in the park as well. The first of these is a new children’s playground called Dung-Ho, which it is thought will be built on the old animal paddocks in Old MacDonald’s farm, which have not been used since the 2001 Foot and Mouth outbreak.
Keeping with the theme of reusing old areas of the park, the second new attraction of 2007 will be a haunted walkway named the Haunted Hollow. The attraction will form a new path to get to Forbidden Valley, and it seems likely it will use the route of the old Park Railway, which has not been used since 1996.
New Dining
The largest new developments in the park in 2007 will come from the catering side of the park, where two new dining experiences will be available, broadening the range of food offered by park. These two new restaurants will replace two of the Towers’ existing establishments, one being built on the site of the former Nemesis Nosh kiosk in Forbidden Valley, whilst the other will replace the Hogs Head Bar and grill. While details are still scarce about the new outlets, it is thought they will both be sit down restaurants offering both indoor and outdoor dining areas.
New Events and Old Favourites
As well as the new Towers Treats and Trails Event, taking place during the February half term, Alton Towers will be hosting a wide range of events throughout the season. The most exciting of these is the possible return of the Towers’ Halloween celebrations, which have not been held at the park since the 2003 season. It is believed that if the Halloween event does go ahead it might be at the cost of the traditional fireworks spectacular, as the park believes it can more successfully mange one of these events or the other rather then hosting both.
Easter will once again see the the Towers turned into a haven for those with a sweet tooth as Chocolate Towers returns for it’s second season, after it’s successful introduction last year. Also May will see the first Alton Towers Balloon Fiesta will be taking place in the park, which will run from Friday 25th – Monday 28th, an event which will surely provide stunning views of the Alton Towers and the surrounding countryside.
Whatever your tastes, it looks as if 2007 is shaping up to be a good year for the park and TowersTimes will be here every step of the way, keeping you updated on all the goings on at your favourite theme park!
