Driving Directions

The easiest way to reach Alton Towers Resort is by car. Although it is important to know that the Resort is located in a tiny village which can get congested easily. You can avoid being stuck in traffic by arriving early and leaving after the main rush at park close.

Alton Towers Resort is reached easily from the M1 and M6 motorways:

  • M1 – Junction 23a (Northbound) or Junction 28 (Southbound)
  • M6 – Junction 15 (Northbound) or Junction 16 (Southbound)

Follow the Alton Towers brown road signs for the most direct route. It should take between 30 and 45 minutes once leaving the motorway on either route depending on traffic.

The resort’s postcode is ST10 4DB. Beware that some navigation systems will try to direct you down Wootton Lane. Try to avoid this route as you may damage your vehicle on the exceptionally narrow road.

Don’t forget that Alton Towers Resort charge for car parking. You can purchase your parking ticket from the Admissions Kiosks, the machines next to the turnstiles, or Resort Box Office. Parking is complimentary for Gold and Platinum Merlin Annual Passholders, Alton Towers Annual Passholders, and hotel residents.

There is an Express Parking area very close to the theme park’s entrance, however this is charged at a premium price per car. Gold and Platinum Merlin Annual Passholders can purchase this at a discounted price.

Public Transport

Whilst driving to the Resort is by far the easiest method, there are still alternative options. We’ve put together the basics below to get you started. We recommend checking with train and bus operators to ensure the service you need is definitely running.

Train

The easiest way to reach the Resort by public transport is to get the train to Stoke-On-Trent station and then either catch a local bus (but note that these can be limited) or use a taxi service to get to the Resort itself. Trains run frequently from both London and Manchester. Buses are considerably less frequent so it’s worth planning your journey around the bus timetable.

Bus

Bus services to Alton Towers Resort are very limited. D&G Bus currently operate two daily bus services to the Resort.

  • From/to Hanley bus station (32X)
  • From/to Stafford railway station, via Uttoxeter railway station (X41)

Alton Towers Resort is serviced by a wide variety of coach operators. It’s worth checking with your local operator to see if they run a service. Alternatively, National Express run a reliable nationwide shuttle service. These are known to sell out so it’s worth booking well in advance.
