Alton Towers Resort has received six nominations in five categories for the ScareCON SCAR awards, the annual awards which recognise and champion all aspects of the scare industry – from Halloween events to year-round scare attractions.
In the nominations for the 13th annual awards, which were revealed last night by ScareCON, the Resort picked up nominations in the following categories:
- Best set and design – The Attic: Terror of the Towers
- Best set and design – Darkest Depths
- Best costume and make up – Darkest Depths
- Best year round scare attraction – The Alton Towers Dungeon
- Best theme park event – Scarefest
- Best Halloween maze – The Attic: Terror of the Towers
Alton Towers Resort will be hoping that 2020 will not be the third year running they walk away empty handed after failing to convert their nominations into victories in both 2018 and 2019. These latest nominations follow on from several previous successes which have seen the Resort win awards for ‘Best Halloween Scare Attraction’ for Altonville Mine Tours: Uncover the Legend of the Skin Snatchers and the ‘Award for Technical Excellence’ for the Haunted Lanterns in Altonville Mine Tours in 2017. Previous years have also seen the Resort win awards in various categories including ‘Best Halloween Scare Attraction’ for Sub Species: The End Games, and The Sanctuary, and ‘Best Overnight Scare Experience’ in 2014 and 2015.
Both Thorpe Park Resort and Chessington World of Adventures Resort also feature in the 2020 nominations with each Resort picking up two nominations each. The London Dungeon also features among the nominations.
Now in its thirteenth year, the SCAR awards are held annually by ScareCON in association with ScareTOUR (a site dedicated to providing independent reviews of scare attractions all over the world). This year’s ScareCON was due to be held at Thorpe Park Resort in May, however, due to the ongoing situation surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s event has unfortunately had to be postponed until 2021. Instead, the 2020 SCAR Award winners will be announced in a special online video on Tuesday 5th May.
