The World of David Walliams was formerly part of the Cloud Cuckoo Land area of the theme park.
On 8th January 2020, David Walliams revealed on his personal twitter account that Gangsta Granny: The Ride would be coming to Alton Towers, with the Resort making a full announcement early the following day, confirming details of the new ride and area.
As part of the development, intended to open for the 2020 season, Gallopers Carousel and Frog Hopper were rethemed, and Gangsta Granny: The Ride was installed in the building formerly home to Wobble World.
Unfortunately, due to the COVID pandemic, the opening of the area was postponed until Spring 2021. The World of David Walliams eventually opened on 17th May 2021, the day that indoor attractions (including Gangsta Granny: The Ride) were permitted to re-open following the easing of lockdown restrictions.
