Alton Towers became the home of Halloween once again in 2007, when they unleashed their Scarefest upon an unwitting public, inviting guests to be as scared as they dare! After several seasons of the Halloween celebrations being restricted to just the hotel complex, the event was expanded right across the resort for 2007 with a host of spooky new attractions as well the return of several favourites from years gone by.

In the Park
The big news in the park was the return of Terror of the Towers, where once again the master of the house opened his doors to allow guests to experience this terrifying maze deep within the gothic ruins of the Towers. The Bloodfest Banquet theme from 2003 was slightly modified – this time around the attraction focused much more on storytelling than outright shock scare tactics.
Elsewhere the Haunted Hollow Live, promised to transform the park’s latest attraction into a spook-filled paradise, as it came alive with fear (and the use of themed lighting, music, fog effects and actors placed along the route). Guests could join the Haunted Hollow’s resident Gravedigger, to be guided to Gloomy Wood along a short-cut that was sure to leave even the most intrepid explorer trembling in their boots.
Meanwhile younger spirits could head over to Cred Street which was transformed into a Pumpkin Patch Playground. Brave young souls were able to try for a prize or risk a surprise by knocking on one of the Trick or Treat Doors, or if that wasn’t their scene they could hang out with Skelvin, Phil, Patch and Franklin, the park’s mischievous Halloween Characters. Cred Street was also home to the Pumpkin Patch, a new indoor playground full of games and spooky goings-on, perfect for young and old alike. Even the ATTV crowd got in on the action, presenting their very own Halloween Special from the Cred Street Theatre.
The park was also open later into the evening so that the fun and frights could continue into the night culminating with a Fright Lights Show which filled Fountain Square with eerie delights. This also meant guests had the chance to ride some of their favourite Rides in the dark.
In the Resort
The hotels looked to build upon 2006’s successful Halloween antics by providing even more scares for their unsuspecting guests. Room 13 was once again open for business, a suite so frightful that the Alton Towers Hotel only dare unbar its doors at what’s most haunted time of the year. The attraction featured a brand new layout and all new theming and props.
2007 also saw the introduction of the brand new Scare Rooms, where things were certain to go bump in the night. Guests could check in to one of these specially dedicated rooms, ready to be scared witless as the ghosts came a-knocking at all hours, while room service were on-hand to serve up a Halloween night to remember.
Those who preferred the more sedate country life could head down to Altonville Farm, located alongside the hotels. However, there wasn’t really anything peaceful about these pastures as they were home to the Field of a 1000 Screams, a maze of maize where nothing was as it seems and the corn held some terrible secrets.
Once guests had their fill of scares, they could relax with an evening of entertainment, which included the Dance with the Devil show and the Monster Mash Party, an all singing, all dancing, Halloween extravaganza. On selected dates hotel guests were also able to visit the Long-Legged Beasties in Splash Landings Hotel’s very own Halloween Zoo.
