It has been revealed that next year’s new 4D Cinema for Alton Towers will no longer have a Shrek theme. The news about the 2011 new attraction was first broke by TowersTimes in October.
Rumours are suggesting that Dreamworks, the creators of Shrek, are unhappy with the quality of the proposed Far, Far, Away retheme for Storybook Land and have therefore cancelled the contract.
This news will come as a huge surprise for all those involved as the plans were already at a mature stage, with the tent already emptied ready for construction to begin.
Although the Shrek IP was not the most popular choice amongst the TowersTimes community, Shrek would have been much more marketable compared with other generic 4D films.
It is likely that the 4D Cinema is being built by Simworx, who have recently built a 4D Cinema in Sea Life Birmingham, another attraction owned by Merlin Entertainments.
There are currently no rumours circulating about what will replace the Shrek film, but we will keep you updated when we hear more. It could be a possibility that one of the Simworx in-house 4D films are now used.
